"The raven"

By

Edgar Allan Poe

The poem "The raven" by Edgar Allan Poe, is about a man, who lives in a big and old house with many statues. One of the midnight’s when he was sitting in his house and reading books someone or something started to tap on the door. He thought that is his dead wife Lenore. But by checking a few times out of the door he finally found it that it was just a raven. Then the raven gets into the house, and stay on statue. The man asked him what is his name, and he responded "Nevermore".

Mood of this poem is very sad. It’s in first person. We can find a few poetic devices, for example assonance ex. " The raven is … the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore". Another example of poetic devices that we can find are rhymes for example dreary; weary; lore; tapping; door; door; more. The rhyme scheme of those rhyme is a, a, b, c, b, b, b. Those rhyme make that poem sounds sadder.

I think that poem is very nice. It is simple and beautiful. It shows me real love to someone, even that person is dead, love still survives. I think that type of love like in this poem should be everywhere. It should help many people to start to believe in themselves. I hope I would find love that strong to someone, and it would survive even if one of us is pass a way.
